WHAT IS IT ?

Profound radiofrequency treatment, or Profound RF, is a Health Canada and FDA approved technology for non-surgical face and neck lifting combining long pulse microneedling and radiofrequency energy. Treatment with the Profound RF Dermal applicator activates the skin's natural regenerative processes, increasing the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The Profound RF treatment effectively firms the skin to reduce sagging skin on the face and neck and fade fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in an overall face and neck lift effect. It also increases elasticity and improves facial contours. The Profound RF SubQ applicator, on the other hand, permanently destroys fat cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

The Profound device sends radiofrequency through micro-needles into the reticular dermis, with its Dermal applicator, or into the subcutaneous fat layer, with its SubQ applicator. Pairs of micro-needles are deployed in the skin and bipolar radiofrequency is emitted to create controlled thermal injuries. When using the Dermal applicator, these numerous micro-injuries trigger natural skin regeneration processes, in particular the migration and proliferation of fibroblasts. This increases the production of collagen and elastin, as well as hyaluronic acid. When using the SubQ applicator, the energy delivered permanently destroys the adipose cells, or fat, in the treated area.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS ?

Treatment of the face and neck with the Profound Dermal applicator will reduce multiple signs of aging: sagging jowls, facial and neck skin laxity, wrinkles, deep nasolabial fold. THE TECHNIQUE ?

Anesthesia of the area to be treated, in order to minimize discomfort, is the first step in a Profound RF treatment. The applicator, Dermal or SubQ, is then chosen depending on the condition to treat. Finally, radiofrequency energy is delivered through pairs of microneedles to create controlled thermal injuries in the skin or the fat layer.

DOES IT HURT ?

Profound RF is a minimally invasive procedure. If needed, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin for about 30 minutes before the procedure to minimize discomfort. A local anesthetic is then injected into the treatment area. These two numbing techniques make the Profound treatment very comfortable.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ?

The Profound RF treatment lasts from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the treatment area. The first results will only appear 3 to 4 months after the treatment because the natural regeneration process needs time to synthesize enough new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Complete results are visible 12 months after the procedure.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST ?

The persistence of the Profound RF treatment results is individual for each patient and depends on many factors such as age, individual skin condition, body mass index, lifestyle, the use of sunscreen and a good skincare routine. However, in most patients, the effects last up to 3-5 years.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME ?

The Profound RF single treatment requires some recovery time, normally less than 7 days. Redness, swelling and bruising may occur but will naturally resolve within 3 to 7 days following the procedure. Although the patient may show visible signs of the treatment for a few days, no pain or discomfort should be felt afterwards.

HOW TO MAINTAIN THE RESULTS ?

Full results of a Profound RF treatment are seen 12 months after the procedure. Generally, results will last for up to 3-5 years.

IS IT SAFE ?

Profound RF is a safe procedure without significant complications. For up to 3-7 days after the procedure, you may experience redness, swelling and bruising in the treatment area. These local side effects require no special care and resolve with time.

ARE THERE CONTRAINDICATIONS ?

Contraindications to Profound RF treatment include pregnancy, scleroderma, active infection, pacemakers, epilepsy and uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. A history of eczema, herpes, and a tendency to form keloid scars should be mentioned to your treating professional.
