HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Gingival smile, or gummy smile, characterized by very visible upper gums when smiling, can be treated with the injection of neuromodulating agents such as Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. These will slightly relax the levator muscles of the upper lip, which will reduce the appearance of gums when smiling.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

PURPOSE

The objective of neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport or Xeomin is, in this case, to limit the surface of visible upper gum when smiling.

src=

HOW IT WORKS

Neuromodulators are made of natural proteins that attach to the muscles in which they are injected to relax them.

src=

RESULTS

We are aiming for a smile that shows less gum. Before and after results may take up to 2 weeks to be optimal.

src=

TECHNIQUE

Neuromodulators are injected using a syringe with a very small needle. This is a non-surgical technique.

src=

ANESTHESIA

The use of anesthetic cream is not necessary before the injection of neuromodulators. Discomfort is minimal.

src=

TIME IT TAKES

The duration of a gummy smile treatment using neuromodulators injections varies between 15 and 30 minutes.

src=

TIME IT LASTS

The effects of neuromodulators last between 4 and 6 months. It is recommended to do 2 to 3 treatments per year to maintain the results.

src=

RECOVERY

Most of the time, recovery from neuromodulator injections occurs within an hour of the procedure. This is the time it takes for the minimal swelling and redness to subside.

FAQ

Everything you need to know about this treatment

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST ?

Generally, you should do maintenance treatments every 4 to 6 months to maintain your results. Several factors can interfere with the sustainability of your results. Your treating professional will discuss this further with you during your consultation.
Neuromodulators cannot be removed, but their effect wears off over the weeks following the treatment. Your treating professional will advise you on the best way to treat your gummy smile and will start with low doses to make sure you always get natural results. Therefore, it is unlikely that you won't like the results.
We always aim for natural results. Your treating professional will assess your muscle strength and discuss the desired results with you in order to find the perfect dose to treat your gummy smile.
If you follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your treating professional, you should not have an asymmetrical result. However, most people have natural minor asymmetries, and those can sometimes cause one of the facial muscles to react differently. If you see an asymmetry, it is recommended that you wait for at least 14 days after your treatment before coming back for a correction because most of these asymmetries even out on their own. If you still have an asymmetry after that period, you can always come back to see your treating professional so that it can be corrected.
